SDG Workshop

The Environmental Pillar hosted a workshop on the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals in Whynns Hotel Dublin on September 30th 2015.
The theme of the workshop was ‘Transforming Our World – Starting with Ireland’ and it aimed to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals and how they impact on Ireland.
There workshop looked specifically at  four of the goals, with short introductory presentations from both Government and NGO speakers, followed by parallel breakout sessions lead by the speakers.

Session A. Goal 2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
John Muldowney, from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Cillian Lohan, from the Irish Natural Forestry Foundation, speak on the Second UN Sustainable Development Goal

Session B. Goal 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
Dr Johnathan Derham, of the Environmental Protection Agency, and Mindy O’Brien, of VOICE, speaking about the twelfth UN Sustainable Development Goal.

Session C. Goal 13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Petra Woods, of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, and Oisín Coghlan, Director of Friends of the Earth, speak on the thirteenth UN Sustainable Development Goal.

Session D. Goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Cecil Beamish, Assistant Secretary General at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Pádraic Fogarty of the Irish Wildlife Trust speak on the fourteenth UN Sustainable Development Goal.

Feedback from the sessions: Rapporteurs from the various discussion sessions on each of the Goals discussed reported back to the workshop.
