Dear Minister McConalogue,
We, the undersigned Irish coalitions and civil society organisations, are writing to express our deep concern about recent actions taken by the European Commission to undermine the EU’s Green Deal and weaken the Good Agricultural and Environmental Condition (GAEC) conditionality within CAP and to urge you to reject all plans to dismantle the CAP’s green architecture. Having worked in good faith with Irish and EU institutions, farmers and civil society for many years to progress the EU’s Green Deal and Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), we wish to express our alarm at the lack of respect for democratic norms, public engagement and transparency that has characterised the EU’s chaotic response to the farmers protests across Europe.
